Things to do in Leeds this Christmas

It's that time of year again! Twinkly lights are decorating the streets, woolly jumpers are being worn, and hot chocolates are especially welcome - Christmas is coming!

I’m Lucy, a 21-year-old exchange student from Australia, living in Leeds for a semester while I study Film at Leeds Beckett. With this being my first ‘cold Christmas’, I wanted to learn what sort of activities I could do while living here to get into the spirit of things.

So, here are a few festive things that you can do, as a student in Leeds.

Christmas 2024 Blog

1. Christmas Movie Marathon at Hyde Park Picture House

Now I don’t know about you, but nothing gets me more excited for Christmas, than getting to watch all my favourite Christmas movies again. Coincidentally, Hyde Park Picture House is set to screen a Christmas-classic over every weekend in December. With a ‘Pay What You Can’ ticketing system, this is a great low-budget option to enjoy your favourite Christmas movies on the big screen - so don’t you dare miss out!

When: Throughout December

2. Leeds Christmas Markets

There’s nothing quite like a Christmas Market to get you in the festive spirit. Starting on the 22 November, City Square and Millennium Square markets will be open, offering a wide range of activities to enjoy. FREE to enter and walkable amongst the city centre, these markets are easy to get to, and promise to be lots of fun. Whether it's taking a ride on a ferris wheel, tasting some traditional mulled wine, or buying some unique knick-knacks from various stalls, these markets have something for everyone.

When: 22 November - 22 December

3. Crowd of Favours for a Sunday roast

Feeling hungry? No trouble! Head down to Crowd Of Favours for a delicious and affordable Sunday Roast. Only £16.50 each, Crowd Of Favours offers a range of delicious roasts that are sure to fill your heart and stomach. Being away from family can be hard around this time of year, so a Crowd Of Favours roast with a few friends could be a great way to start a new Christmas tradition.

When: Whenever you like!

4. Ice Cube

What’s more festive than skating at a Christmas market in the middle of winter?! Right in the heart of Millennium Square, Ice Cube will be open for everyone to enjoy. £10.50 will buy you a ticket, skate hire and a 2-hour session of skating around the rink. Whether it's falling with charm or gliding with grace, have fun and bring some friends along to enjoy this classically Christmas experience.

When: 22 November - 22 December

There you have it! Four easy-to-do, affordable and exciting activities that are available to do in December. There really is so much to do and experience, so go get out there and see it for yourself! Enjoy!
