What was your involvement as a Project Provider?

We created a finance project for the Summer Graduate Programme participants, focused on increasing individual donations for Women’s Health Matters. This involved looking at the social media strategy, our fundraising methods, and looking into the areas we could be improving.

As part of the project we made sure that participants got a full overview of the organisation which included what we do, and enabling them to shadow groups, attend team and safeguarding meetings, and gain peer support that we had in place during their placement with us.

What do you think the benefits were for participants?

Firstly, I would say it was about getting real-world work experience. It can be challenging to gain in the third sector which is what we could offer. The feedback we received from previous participants was that it’s really helpful to see the impact, and learn how to approach this type of work in the field.

I made sure to tell participants not to worry, as we understand they may come with little to no experience. We made sure to offer an intensive induction period with support offered throughout their time with us. Where it was relevant, we also offered specific training as well.

Were there any positive outcomes?

We did have one unexpected outcome as our placement integrated really well with the team. They produced some work to a really high standard, and Women’s Health Matters was able to implement a strong strategy as a result of that work. A role came up within the organisation that we felt would suit them really well, and so now they work here full-time!
