Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

Leeds Beckett University’s sports teams will compete against their University of Leeds counterparts in the return of Leeds Varsity. Get ready for a unique spectacle not to be missed. Bring your pride, passion, and friendship!

After two years away, Leeds Varsity will be opening its doors to more than 10,000 students, cheering on teams from Leeds Beckett University and the University of Leeds. The competition will take place from Wednesday 27 April to Wednesday 4 May.

More than 1,400 students will compete across 60+ fixtures for the right to be crowned Leeds Varsity champions. Leeds Beckett are the reigning champions, having won the competition when it was last held in October 2019. LBU have won 15 times since it began in 2004, having lost once to the University of Leeds in 2018.

Leeds Beckett University and the University of Leeds joined together to create Leeds Varsity for the first time in 2004, and quickly established the competition as the must attend event in the Leeds student calendar. We bring everyone together in friendship and convivial rivalry, harnessing students’ pride and passion for sport, and their love of Leeds.

The majority of fixtures will take place on Wednesday 4 May. There will be fixtures during the day at Leeds Beckett University’s Headingley Campus, as well as the University of Leeds’ sports venues as part of the Varsity Festival before the competition ends in the evening at Headingley stadium for the traditional rugby union finale.

The rugby union finale will feature a double-header with Leeds Beckett’s BUCS Super Rugby team and women’s first team in action.

Leeds Beckett University Sports Office Manager Josephine Mannion, who is the lead co-ordinator for Leeds Varsity, said:

‘It’s very exciting to have Varsity return after two years away and to take place at the end of the academic year.

“We are looking forward to introducing Varsity to a new cohort of students who have never experienced it before. It is one of the biggest events in the student calendar and I am sure this year will not disappoint.’

There can only be one winner at Leeds Varsity 2022.
