Michael Martin – BA (Hons) Sport Marketing: Deans Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement
Michael’s consistently high work ethic and academic achievement has resulted in him being recognised with the Dean’s prize for outstanding achievement. A friendly and popular student, Michael balanced his studies alongside being a student ambassador and course representative, engaging with an array of potential students on open and applicant days, he has been a fantastic representative of the course and wider university. Michael’s outstanding achievement can be emphasised in his final year project where Michael wrote an exceptional business plan explaining in detail the possibilities of establishing a digital marketing agency in Northern Ireland. Congratulations Michael and we all look forward to seeing what is next!

Mackenzie Turner - BA (Hons) Sport Marketing:  Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Course

John Clark – BA (Hons) Sport Development: Dean’s Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement
John has been a high performer since joining the course in 2021, culminating in him achieving a very high average grade of 80+ in his final year. His dissertation, entitled “Forced Migrants and Sport: an exploration of a grassroots, informal football session”, went to the heart of the Carnegie School of Sport’s mission to make a difference in our communities, receiving a hard-earned and outstanding grade of 87. Connected to his dissertation work and his wider passions, John has been active in supporting refugees and asylum seekers in his final year. Previously, he was a pioneer as one of the attendees on our inaugural Carnegie trip to Pune, India. He has engaged brilliantly with academic staff throughout his studies, expanding our critical horizons as well as his own. His next step is postgraduate study, at which he is expected to excel. Randomly, John also has the best knowledge of coffee shops across Leeds of any student we know!

Liam Clark – BA (Hons) Sport Development: Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Course
Liam, it is fair to say, has been a ‘dream student’ since joining us in 2021. He signed up as a Student Ambassador in his first year, and as well as performing that role to a very high standard he has stepped up whenever required to support the course team in other ways. He has been an invaluable liaison between students and staff and provided superb support to Sport Development Experience Days undertaken with sixth form colleges. He played an important leadership role on the first Carnegie trip to Pune, India, representing the Sport Development course with distinction. Liam has been very active in his involvement with Rugby Union throughout his time at the university, working as a coach within the student squads and also in industry, bringing his Sport Development values of fairness and inclusivity into the rugby sphere. He has been a fantastic advocate for Sport Development in all of his university-related pursuits and is looking forward to postgraduate study with Carnegie. He is also always eating!
