Course: BA (Hons) Music Industries Management

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you’ve been doing since you graduated?

I graduated from Leeds Beckett in 2021. My first job was as a Social Media Assistant at a local business for six months. I also taught piano at Southport Piano Academy, where I learned how to play when I was younger. This was fun to pass on my expertise to other young pianists and watch kids enjoy learning to play the piano. I then got a job as a Customer Care Support Advisor at Ticketmaster in Manchester. After three weeks, I applied for a promotion to Service Resolution Coordinator and started that Role after a month in the company.

What have been the highlights and challenges of your career so far?

So far, the highlight of my career was getting my job at Ticketmaster and then getting a promotion a month later.

How has your experience studying at Leeds Beckett influenced you and your career?

Studying at Leeds Beckett has taught me a lot about the music industry. If I didn’t study at Leeds Beckett, I wouldn’t be where I am today, as this is where I met the connections at Ticketmaster. I really enjoyed my course, it gives you many opportunities to gain experience and connect with employers.

What attracted you to study your course?

I have always loved music, I’ve played the flute and piano since a young age and have just always wanted to do something in the music industry.

I love the location of Leeds, it’s in a perfect place to be as a student and it’s far enough away from my hometown but not too far for me to go home when I wanted. The content of the course was also very different to any others I had seen, there was a real focus on not only how the music industry is run but also the different jobs within the sectors.

What did you enjoy about your course and what advice would you give someone thinking about studying this course?

I enjoyed how the course was delivered, we were very much involved with the teaching style, and student feedback was always taken on board. You are also supported so much by all the lecturers throughout your time and even after you graduate.

I would advise anyone thinking about studying this course to go for it. You learn a lot more about the music industry than you think, and although it’s all coursework, there are still challenges within the course.

What’s next for you?

I hope to stay at Ticketmaster for a while, learning more and gaining more experience, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings me.
