Join our Peer Review College
Earlier this year, Dr Shanta Coles, Associate Director for Research and Innovation, blogged about the launch of our Pilot Peer Review College (pFPRC) at Leeds Beckett. This has been created to improve our bidding quality, increase skills in our research community and promote a vibrant and collative research environment. In this new post, Shanta shares the progress made so far – and how you can take part.
Our progress so far
The College is developing well! Feedback provided from members is that it has improved the peer review process on bids such as the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships - and having a broad membership means that members can be invited to peer review based on their expertise, rather than relying on a previous smaller pool of people, or due to availability. Peer Reviewers are slowly getting used to the new process and have provided valuable insights for process improvement.
What are next steps for the College?
Whilst we have made an encouraging start with recruiting new members, we would really like to increase the number of colleagues that are part of the College. We will be running a couple of online drop-in sessions this Semester, to provide further information on the College and how colleagues can join.
We will also be running a networking session early next year, which will provide some training and development, opportunities for feedback and networking. Further information will be sent out shortly, so watch this space!
How can I be involved and where can I find out more?
If you are interested in joining the Peer Review College or would like to find out more please email us and for further information on the Pilot please visit our Research and Enterprise intranet.

I am the Associate Director of Research Services at Leeds Beckett University.
My role is to lead a brilliant team of Business Development and Research Development Managers to enhance our research culture and reputation through supporting schools to achieve their research and innovation ambitions. This includes supporting schools with the development of bids from a range of funders to increase our income, training and development of academics and building partnerships with a range of external organisations across a range of mutually beneficial collaborations.
