To put that into perspective: between 2010 and 2020, the programme invested £200 million in 2,000 projects, adding an incredible £2.3 billion to the UK economy. That’s not just impressive—it’s transformational. And the momentum continues, with over 300 new projects launched every year.

Leeds Beckett and KTP: A Partnership That Spans Decades

Leeds Beckett University has been part of this journey since around 1978, working on projects with iconic names such as Rowntree Mackintosh, Leeds Bradford Airport, and the Rugby Football League. Today, our involvement in KTP is stronger than ever. We maintain a portfolio of over 20 active projects, collaborating with a diverse range of organisations - primarily SMEs - across Yorkshire and beyond.

Celebrating 50 Years of Impact

Last week marked the culmination of a series of 50th anniversary celebrations, showcasing the unique flavour of KTP at Leeds Beckett. If you haven’t already, check out our “50 Years, 50 Posts” LinkedIn campaign. For 50 days, we’ve highlighted the many faces of KTP - from the brilliant associates who deliver projects to the unsung heroes behind the scenes and the incredible diversity of our partnerships.

A Week of Inspiration and Collaboration

We were delighted to welcome Richard Lamb, Programme Director, to Leeds Beckett for a series of events designed to showcase our strengths:

The celebrations also included a Round Table discussion at our KTP partner Northern Ballet’s headquarters, focusing on the future of KTP through the lens of West Yorkshire priorities. Representatives from West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Leeds City Council, and Innovate UK joined us to explore how KTP aligns with the government’s Industrial Strategy and how we can continue to foster innovation and growth.

Ending on a High Note

We concluded with a vibrant celebratory event at The Knowledge Exchange, bringing together past, present, and future partners, associates, and academic colleagues. Highlights included:

  • A poster competition from KTP associates showcasing their projects.
  • Inspiring keynote speeches from KTP alumni Raj Kandola and Alex Boote.
  • Supportive remarks from PVC Professor Silke Machold.
  • Closing reflections from Richard Lamb.
