Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing

YORhub Contractors Support Built Environment Student with Dissertation Projects

Seventeen of the region’s main contractors, including four SMEs, working under the YORhub group of frameworks attended a session where they discussed their personal and industry experiences of digital technologies with a view to supporting final year students with their dissertation projects.

This session was brought together by the School’s thinkBIM network, a knowledge exchange group promoting the uptake and development of digital technologies and digital skills in the construction industry, and supported by YORhub, a management hub for several of the region’s key construction procurement frameworks.

Five students were able to conduct semi-structured interviews and provide questionnaires to inform their research topic areas. The students were from the school’s Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering and Project Management programmes. The School plans to share the dissertation outcomes, including feedback from YORhub during thinkBIM’s Autumn conference on Wednesday 2 October 2019 (thinkBIM blog for details ckegroup.org/thinkbimblog/). This is the first of what the school hopes to be many more informal industry partnerships that can be used to strengthen the industry-academia output to inform good practice.

Steve Baker, Joint Chair of Operations for YORhub was delighted to support the event. Steve commented that this was a fine example of industry/ academia collaboration and he is looking forward to future engagement with the University. Steve added that the promotion and development of employment and skills lies at the heart of the YORhub frameworks and this event was a great forum for learning and skills transfer. Steve would like to express his thanks to the YORbuild2 Contractors who supported the students.
