2022 Sociology graduate TJ at his graduation ceremony

TJ Foster is a Class of 2022 School of Humanities and Social Sciences graduate. Below he discusses his experiences on his course and what it felt like to graduate.

Why did you choose to study Sociology at Leeds Beckett?

I tried Sociology at A Level and I really loved it, the social aspect especially. I liked how general it is, it covers a lot of different areas. I feel like now that I’ve learnt about a lot more things, my perspective has changed. You appreciate people’s individuality a lot more.

What was your favourite part of the course?

All the modules really. Philosophy was hard but very good, there’s Protest & Social Movements which is very current and the lecturers made it really fun because they’re so passionate about the course. So I’d say just doing the work was the best part.

What support did you receive whilst you were studying at Leeds Beckett?

Our course admin were extremely helpful. Any questions you had, they would be there for you, even if it’s not their job. Then obviously there were all the lecturers, my dissertation tutor was a great guy. Then there were friends and family of course.

Especially going through Covid, I can’t imagine doing it on my own. So, there’s been support from everything and everyone.

How does it feel to be graduating?

I feel ecstatic actually, euphoric. Honestly, I haven’t felt anything like this. Walking up on stage especially, I’m still a bit excited and giddy!

What’s next for you?

I’m doing a Masters in Security, Conflict and Justice.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of studying here?

Go into it open-minded. Go in expecting anything and you’ll make the most out of it. And maybe try a module you’re not familiar with.

What will your story be?

Studying with us is a great choice, check out some of our courses and see for yourself!
