Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

From Leeds Beckett to Sky News: My Exciting Journey in Media and Communication

BA (Hons) Media, Communications and Cultures student Abdullah, shares his motivations for choosing to study media at Leeds Beckett and his incredible opportunity to work with Sky News during the general election.

I chose Media and Communication because I love how media shapes our world and connects people. The field is exciting, offering numerous career options in areas like journalism, advertising, and digital marketing. I enjoy creating content and telling stories, and this course will help me learn how to do that professionally.

Leeds Beckett University stood out to me for several reasons. Firstly, its prime location in the heart of England makes it easy to travel anywhere. Secondly, Leeds Beckett ranks in the top 50 for media studies, which greatly influenced my decision. The combination of these factors made Leeds Beckett the perfect choice for pursuing my passion in media.

I am thrilled to have been selected to represent Sky News during the general election in November 2023. One of my lecturers announced via email that Sky News was recruiting youth and students interested in media, journalism, and politics to work with them on election night as camera operators and journalists. With my past experience in content creation, I signed up and was informed in March 2024 that I had been selected. It involves working in pairs and each pair will be helping in coverage the day with a camera, so we will be Camera Operators for the day and I'm really looking forward to it.

Although I haven't worked with an official channel before, I have a lot of experience with content creation. This opportunity will greatly benefit my studies by enhancing my communication skills and media knowledge. Additionally, it will help build my experience for my future career.

The training for this opportunity includes a few remote sessions at the end of June, with the big day being the night of the 4th of July. I am eager to learn and contribute during this pivotal event.

I want to thank my lecturer, Dr. Katherine Harrison, for sharing this wonderful opportunity and for all her support and meetings leading up to the election. I also want to thank the entire media school for their advice and warm wishes. This support has been invaluable as I embark on this exciting journey in media and communication.
