How I changed my course by applying through Clearing
Hi I’m Cara and I’m a Psychology student at Leeds Beckett, in this blog I’ll tell you how I changed my course through Clearing. You might not realise but Clearing isn’t just for people who want to change their university. You can also change your course. If you’re thinking of changing your course then I hope this blog is helpful.
DECIDING TO CHANGE MY COURSE
I had originally applied to study Business Management at Leeds Beckett and was overjoyed to receive an unconditional offer. However, as we got closer to Results Day, deep down I was unsure if this was the course I wanted to study. If I was being honest, I enjoyed studying Psychology more during my A Levels. Choosing what to study isn’t easy and I made my decision based on which course seemed more practical. As I got closer to starting university, I began to think more about this. I knew I needed to be fully committed to the course I studied and that I would apply myself more to Psychology because this was where my heart was. So, I decided to apply to change my course through Clearing.
As I’d received an unconditional offer for Business Management, the prospect of changing my course was quite daunting. Any offer relating to changing my course would be based on my actual results, meaning my place on the Psychology course wasn’t guaranteed.
CONTACTING LEEDS BECKETT
On Results Day I was unsure which Psychology-based course I wanted to study. I hadn’t decided to definitely change my course until the day of Results Day, and there are several different Psychology courses to choose from. I rang the university Clearing line as I thought it would be better to speak to someone directly. I called all flustered and stressed out trying to figure out what course I wanted to do. The person I spoke to was so lovely, helpful, and reassuring about the whole situation. She helped me calm down and told me to try to gather my thoughts about the courses I was considering. She advised me to take five minutes and call back when I’d had a look at the different courses and had a think about any questions I had. When I eventually rang back, having collected my thoughts, I decided I wanted to do the straight Psychology BSc (Hons) degree. The call was so straightforward and easy. I was asked my name, the amount of UCAS points I’d obtained with my results, what I studied at A Level and the names of the courses I was changing. Then it was all sorted! I simply accepted my place over the phone and received a confirmation email from UCAS.
SUPPORTIVE STAFF
My experience showed me the Leeds Beckett Clearing staff are so welcoming and friendly. The person I spoke to was happy to help me and put me at ease on a very stressful day. If you’re feeling nervous, try calling the Clearing line to ask for more details about any of the courses. You can also speak to a lecturer as this may help you decide if the course you’re thinking about applying for in Clearing is right for you. Afterall, they’ll be teaching the course and know the modules, placement options and graduate outcomes better than anyone. The online resources are also great for guidance and support and the Clearing website had all the information I needed so I knew who to contact.
Feeling unsure on Results Day is completely okay. To those considering changing course through Clearing, there is nothing to worry about. You are as deserving as anyone to gain a place at Leeds Beckett.
