Tiled background

Welcome to my blog! I am excited to share my journey of choosing and attending Leeds Beckett University (LBU) in the United Kingdom. Choosing a university can be a daunting task, especially when you have a wide range of options to choose from. It can be overwhelming to decide which university is the best fit for you and your academic and career goals. That was certainly the case for me as I struggled to choose a university that would provide me with the support and opportunities I needed to succeed.

After much consideration, I decided to study in the United Kingdom because of its reputation for safety, growth, and opportunity. However, even after making that decision, I still had to wade through a long list of universities and courses to find the right fit.

That's where Leeds Beckett University (LBU) came in. I was lucky enough to have the support of an agency called Intake, which was able to narrow down my choices based on my credentials. This made the process of choosing a university much easier, as I was able to focus on a select few options that were the best fit for me.

The Application

One thing that really stood out to me about LBU was the opportunity to talk to a university representative. I was struggling to choose a university as I was not sure if my educational background from a non-top 4 university from the Philippines was credible enough for UK standards. Unlike other universities where I was only able to communicate through email and web chat, LBU allowed me to have a one-hour video call with their global engagement officer. I can say that from the very start, LBU is positively different in supporting its students. This made me feel much more comfortable in my decision to choose LBU, as I was able to ask all the questions I had and get a sense of the university's culture and support systems.

The application process for LBU was also seamless, thanks to the step-by-step guidance provided by Intake Education. It is an agency that is paid by the UK Government and Universities. It only took me a month and a half from start to finish to complete the process, which included getting all the necessary requirements for application to LBU, as well as assistance with the visa application process. Some of the requirements below required writing, for which I was given a template.

I knew that the education in my home country and the UK will be different. I doubted myself even before I started. That pessimism affected my well-being. But despite my initial doubts about the transition to a new country and university, LBU has provided all the support I need to succeed. From the global engagement officer to the academic and library and IT support, there are many resources available to help students transition to life at LBU. The university also provides well-being support to ensure that students are able to thrive personally and academically.

Academic Journey

LBU offers a wide range of courses that are aligned with my career goals, including the Master in Public Health - Health Promotion program that I am currently enrolled in. The program has allowed me to reconstruct and fill the gaps in my medical knowledge, and I am excited to see where it takes me in the future.

The infrastructure at LBU is designed well to cater to the needs and interests of students, and there are many student activities throughout the year, including the Leeds Beckett Student Union, volunteering opportunities, and societies. These activities provide students with the chance to build up their skills, social network, and CV.

Leeds is a well-balanced location that provides a diverse range of opportunities while not being too busy like other cities. This makes it an ideal place to study and live, and LBU has made it easy for me to choose them and thrive during my academic stay. I am enjoying my journey at LBU and am excited to see where it takes me in the future.

Conclusion

In conclusion, choosing Leeds Beckett University was the right decision for me. The support systems available at LBU, including the global engagement officer, academic and library and IT support, and well-being support, have helped me transition to life at the university and succeed academically. My program, Master's in Public Health - Health Promotion, has allowed me to pursue my career goals and fill the gaps in my medical education journey. The education system at LBU is designed well to cater to the needs and interests of students, and there are many student activities available to build up competence. Overall, LBU has provided me with the support and opportunities I need to thrive during my academic journey.
