A day in my life
Hello everyone, my name is Sonia and embarking on a journey as an international student at Leeds Beckett University has been a life-changing experience filled with new perspectives, diverse cultures, and academic growth. In this blog, I'll take you through a typical day in my life, from the early morning hustle to the enriching academic pursuits and vibrant social interactions that make my time at Leeds Beckett truly unforgettable.
Starting my day
My day begins at 7am with affirmations and I am ready to start yet another exciting day in Leeds. After a refreshing shower, I head to the kitchen to prepare a hearty breakfast that fuels my body and mind for the day ahead. As I sip my coffee, I review my schedule, ensuring I am well-prepared for what the day holds. I leave my house 30 minutes before my lectures, which begin at 9 am. An overseas student must be very good at managing their time.
Keeping a schedule
One of the highlights of my life as an international student at Leeds Beckett University is the engaging and diverse academic environment. My classes are a mix of lectures, seminars, and practical sessions, each designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subjects I'm passionate about. During breaks, I go to the Gaia café in my city campus, to grab a bite or sometimes, I visit our cafeteria to have a wholesome brunch! Later, I visit the library and spend some time to delve deeper in my studies, that includes working on assignments, conducting research, or honing my academic skills. After that, I visit a nearby gym because maintaining my physical health is crucial.
Exploring Leeds
On some days, I unwind with friends as we head out to explore the city's culinary scene, trying new cuisines and sharing laughter over a delicious meal. The nicest aspect about being a student, in my opinion, is that we can utilise our student ID cards to receive additional discounts on the bill. Beyond the campus, the city of Leeds offers a treasure trove of cultural experiences. From art galleries to historical sites, the city is a blend of tradition and modernity, providing endless opportunities for exploration. These experiences not only provide a break from academics but also add a layer of richness to my time in Leeds.
Being an international student
But on a regular day, I leave for my part-time work after finishing up at university. I then return home to prepare a meal for myself and as I cook, I phone or video chat with my family for that daily dose of connection. I then eat dinner and settle in to watch Netflix, followed by my night routine. I keep a journal in which I write about my day and update it with my daily expenses. Being an international student in a foreign country comes with a lot of responsibilities and can be intimidating and overwhelming at the same time, but believe me when I say that it does get better over time. Give yourself some time, and you'll soon be where you wanted to be!
