What happened on Results Day when my course was unavailable
Hi, I am Amie – now an official Leeds Beckett Graduate in Counselling and Mental Health! In this blog I will discuss my own journey through Clearing and how you can still apply even if you find yourself without a university place on Results Day.
Not everything always goes to plan…
For many students, Results Day is a whirlwind of emotions. It’s a day filled with hope and anxiety, where the future feels uncertain and the pressure to secure a spot on your desired course can be overwhelming. For me it was no different. I found myself unplaced, having not secured a spot on the course I initially wanted. It was a moment of disappointment and feeling a bit lost, but it also became a turning point in my academic journey.
Initially, the course I had my heart set on had been pulled and was no longer available. It felt like a major setback, and I wasn’t sure where to turn next. However, I discovered that Leeds Beckett University was willing to accept my grades and place me on to the Counselling and Mental Health course and through Clearing. Even though I didn’t get into my first choice, this recognition gave me another shot at pursuing my dreams. It was a reminder that even if you don’t get what you initially wanted, there are often alternative pathways that can lead you to where you want to be.
Leeds Beckett Student Support
With this new opportunity, I commuted from home to Leeds Beckett, navigating the challenges of distance and adapting to a new routine. It wasn’t always easy, but it was worth it. The flexibility and support provided by Leeds Beckett were instrumental in helping me overcome the initial disappointment. The university’s commitment to supporting students, regardless of their circumstances, made a significant difference in my journey.
One of the most memorable moments of my time at Leeds Beckett was when I achieved a First Class degree and received the Dean’s Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Psychological Therapies and Mental Health. This recognition was beyond what I had ever imagined for myself. It was a testament to the fact that with the right support even a challenging start can lead to remarkable accomplishments.
This achievement has been a significant milestone in my academic and personal growth. The encouragement and resources provided by Leeds Beckett were crucial in helping me reach this point. Their support didn’t just end with graduation; it paved the way for my next steps. I am thrilled to share that I’ve been accepted onto a Master’s course in Integrative Counselling. This new chapter brings me closer to my dream of becoming a psychologist.
Food for thought
Reflecting on my journey, I’ve learned that even when things don’t go according to plan, there is always an alternative route that can lead to success. The Clearing experience taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the value of seeking support when needed. If you find yourself in a similar situation on Results Day, remember that there are always options available. Embrace the alternatives, stay focused on your long-term goals, and be open to unexpected opportunities.
Your path may not always be straightforward, but with determination and the right support, you can achieve incredible things. Keep believing in yourself and your dreams, and you might find that the journey, while different from what you initially envisioned, can still lead you to even greater success.
