Enjoying Autumn in Leeds
Autumn in Leeds brings a refreshing change as the city transforms with golden leaves, cool air, and a cosy atmosphere. With temperatures usually between 7°C and 15°C, it's a great season to enjoy outdoor and indoor activities. As an international student, I arrived in Leeds in the autumn, and it is my favourite season of the year.
My name is Emma, and here are the top 5 activities you shouldn't miss during autumn in Leeds.
Stroll through Roundhay Park or Hyde Park
Leeds is home to many beautiful parks, and during autumn, they are all covered in golden leaves, creating the perfect backdrop for a peaceful escape. Strolling through Roundhay Park or Hyde Park, two of the city’s most popular green spaces, is a great way to embrace the season. If you prefer a quiet walk, bringing along your favourite book, or enjoying a cosy picnic with friends, these parks offer the ideal spot to soak in the crisp autumn air and capture the beauty of nature at its finest.
Take part in Leeds Night Light
Leeds Light Night is the UK’s largest annual arts and light festival and this year, this year it was on Thursday 24 & Friday 25, October from 18:00 to 22:00. It features stunning light installations around the city, illuminating the streets and buildings in creative and colourful ways.
There will be a monumental-scale light showcase at Leeds Civic Hall. I believe you will be impressed, so make sure you don't miss this spot.
Attend Leeds International Film Festival (LIFF)
Every November, this popular festival showcases a range of films worldwide. It’s a great indoor activity as the weather cools. This year, the LIFF will take place from November 1 - 17. You can buy a LIFF 2024 Pass from the 9 October programme launch date and it’s the best value way to experience the film festival if you want to see multiple films. Individual tickets are around £10.50/£8.50 for features and £9.50/£7.50 for short film programmes.
Enjoy Autumnal Food and Drinks
Try cosy cafes or visit Leeds Kirkgate Market for seasonal treats. If you are a chocoholic, my recommendation will be CUP + LID.
Address: 29 The Headrow, Leeds LS1 6PU.
Additionally, whenever I have a gap between a lecture and a seminar, 92 Degrees Coffee is always my go-to place. It is just a 2-minute walk from Leeds Beckett City Campus. Enjoying a cup of mocha while working or looking at the autumn weather outside is the best.
Address: 100 Clay Pit Ln, Leeds LS2 8EU
Have a weekend trip
Autumn weather is perfect for a weekend getaway. Explore the beautiful ruins of Kirkstall Abbey, or a mini hike at Ilkley Moor, set against a backdrop of autumn colours, is always a great choice.
