Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

Take a souvenir photo with friends at Leeds Christmas Market

Leeds Christmas Market, located in Millennium Square in the heart of the city, is the ideal place to immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere. With traditional wooden stalls decorated with sparkling lights, the market creates a beautiful setting for souvenir photos. Take a walk with your friends around the stalls, where handmade gifts, decorations and unique items are sold. Don't forget to pose next to the giant Christmas tree or under the sparkling lights for impressive.

🎄 Tip: Visit the market in the evening when the lights are at their brightest and bring a hot drink to keep you warm as you wander.

Enjoy the festive food

A visit to the Christmas market wouldn’t be complete without a chance to enjoy the typical food. Leeds has a lot of stalls serving local and international dishes. Here are some of the best options:

Churros: Crispy churros covered in sugar, served with hot chocolate sauce is my favourite, especially in the cold winter.
Mulled Wine: Enjoy a glass of mulled wine mixed with spices to warm you up on chilly evenings. If you don’t drink alcohol, try hot cider or hot chocolate, which will definitely not disappoint.
German Hot Dogs: Delicious bratwurst, served with sauerkraut or caramelized onions, is sure to please

Other Fun Activities

Apart from the Christmas markets and food, Leeds has a lot of fun festive activities to enjoy:

Ice Skating: Head to the ice rink at Millennium Square for some fun on the ice. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, this is a great activity to make memories during the holiday season.
Admire the Lights: Stroll along Briggate and see the streets lit up with Christmas lights. Shopping areas like Victoria Quarter and Trinity Leeds are also beautifully decorated.
See a Play or Show: Enjoy a Christmas play or performance at one of Leeds’ theatres, such as Leeds Playhouse or City Varieties Music Hall. These events will bring a colourful atmosphere to the festive season.
Festive Shopping: Explore independent shops and Christmas-themed pop-up stalls for unique gifts. Leeds Corn Exchange and Kirkgate Market are great places to find that special something.
