He is an applied scientist with expertise in carbohydrate metabolism, endurance performance, environmental physiology and nutrition. John is an accredited sport scientist with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

Senior Lecturer / Carnegie School of SportDr Debbie Smith is a SENR practitioner and Senior Lecturer in Applied Sport and Exercise Nutrition. She has worked with various sports teams and organizations, and is also a National Trainer for UK Anti-Doping, delivering work compliant with WADA standards.

Reader / Carnegie School of SportDr. Brian Hanley is a researcher in sport and exercise biomechanics and an endurance coach. He is interested in the science of athletics and human gait, and was a former athlete himself.

Senior Lecturer / Carnegie School of SportDr Matt Barlow is a Senior Lecturer in Sports and Exercise Physiology. He is actively involved in research and consultancy relating to body composition and bone density. He has provided services to a wide range of individuals from everyday people to those performing at the highest levels in a wide range of sports.

Costas Tsakirides
Senior Lecturer / Carnegie School of SportCostas Tsakirides is a senior lecturer in exercise physiology with experience in the physiological assessment of athletes and cardiac patients. He has supported cardiac rehabilitation programs in Leeds since 1993 and has trained hundreds of fitness instructors. He was the BACPR course director for Yorkshire 2002-2019.

Marina Alexander
Consultant - Radiographer / Carnegie School of SportMarina Alexander is a HCPC registered radiographer and CQC manager. Marina has many years of experience in the NHS and private sector as a radiographer and an applications specialist. She is responsible for the provision of the University’s clinical DXA Service and supporting DXA research.
