The first visit confirms your eligibility and includes body measurements, blood samples, and a glucose tolerance test. PLEASE NOTE: ONLY ACCESS THE VISIT 2 LINK ON SONA AFTER YOUR IN-PERSON SCREENING APPOINTMENT, AS YOU WILL BE GIVEN A UNIQUE CONFIRMATION CODE AT THAT TIME. The second visit includes questionnaires, cognitive tasks, ultrasound scans, and a body scan, after which you’ll be randomly assigned to receive either a probiotic or placebo capsule. At Weeks 6, 11, and 12, you’ll repeat similar assessments, including blood tests, questionnaires, scans, and cognitive tasks. You’ll receive 1 SONA point for completing the pre-screening questionnaire, 5 SONA points for attending the screening visit, and a £100 voucher upon completion of the 12-week trial. Providing a stool sample is optional. HOW TO TAKE PART? If you’re interested in joining the study, please complete a short pre-screening questionnaire via Qualtrics using the attached link. The questionnaire includes the full Participant Information Sheet (PIS), which provides detailed information about the study and what taking part involves, as well as a few questions to check whether you meet the eligibility criteria. If you’re eligible, you'll be asked to book a screening appointment via Google calendar.
