Women Leading with Impact is designed as a progressive leadership development journey, with each workshop building on the last. You'll start by strengthening self-awareness and confidence, before developing the skills to lead others effectively, and finally focusing on resilience, influence, and long-term leadership impact. To get the full benefit, delegates are encouraged to take part in the full programme.
The course is delivered in 12x two-hour sessions hosted monthly at Leeds Beckett University.
This course is part of the #WECAN - Impact and Growth programme. Discover more about #WECAN.
Theme 1: Leading Self
This first session helps you step back and reflect on who you are as a leader, what matters to you, and how aligned you feel with your organisation. You'll explore what authentic leadership looks like in practice and begin to shape a leadership approach that feels credible and confident. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is introduced, and you'll complete an EQ questionnaire that supports your learning across the programme.
Building on your reflections from the first session, you'll work with your personal EQ leadership report to explore the key EQ domains and what they reveal about how you show up as a leader, particularly under pressure. This session focuses on interpreting your results in a practical way, connecting EQ to everyday leadership behaviours, decision-making, and working relationships.
With a clearer understanding of your emotional profile, this session explores imposter syndrome - what it is, why it happens, and how it can quietly affect confidence and leadership presence. You'll reflect on how imposter thoughts show up for you and develop practical strategies to manage self-doubt and unhelpful inner criticism more effectively.
This session focuses on how your communication style shows up in everyday leadership situations, from routine conversations to more challenging discussions. You'll build confidence in saying what needs to be said, handling tricky conversations calmly, and communicating clearly and professionally when expectations or boundaries need to be addressed.
Theme 2: Leading Others
Shifting the focus from leading yourself to leading others, this session explores the practical realities of managing people, from recruitment and development through to performance and retention. You'll consider how to recognise both performance and potential, and how to adapt your leadership approach to meet the needs of different individuals.
This session focuses on feedback as a regular leadership habit. You'll explore why feedback can feel uncomfortable and how to make it more impactful and confidence-building. Using a simple feedback model, you'll practise giving and receiving feedback in a way that builds trust, creates clarity, and supports improved performance.
This session explores the balance leaders need to strike between engaging and supporting their people, while also holding them accountable for performance. You'll reflect on where you naturally sit on this spectrum and how leaning too far in either direction can affect results. The focus is on setting clear expectations and creating a team culture where people feel supported and responsible for delivering.
As expectations and accountability increase, this workshop focuses on the practical skills needed to have honest conversations when things aren't going to plan. You'll work through real-life scenarios, explore what often gets in the way of speaking up, and take away clear tactics for preparing, structuring, and navigating difficult conversations with confidence and professionalism.
This session explores coaching as a leadership style that can have a powerful and empowering impact on how you support others. You'll reflect on how a coaching approach moves you away from telling and fixing, towards building confidence, ownership, and growth in your team. The focus is on using coaching in everyday leadership situations to support development and performance.
Theme 3: Leading for Impact and Influence
With strong foundations in self-awareness and people leadership, this session focuses on the human side of change. You'll explore the role you play in supporting others through uncertainty and how to communicate change clearly and authentically, using storytelling to build understanding, engagement, and trust during periods of challenge.
This session invites you to reflect on how stress and pressure show up for you as a leader and the impact this can have on both you and your team. The focus is on building resilience, modelling healthy boundaries, supporting psychological safety, and developing a wellbeing approach that feels realistic and sustainable.
The final session brings everything together, helping you make sense of your development across the programme and shape a clear leadership identity. You'll reflect on how your values, strengths, and experiences influence how you lead, complete a personal SWOT, and create a development plan that supports your next steps with clarity and confidence
