Suitable for practitioners working with health and social care clients, primarily from a hospital/clinical based setting, this module has been developed in partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The module will aim to increase the student's knowledge and skills recognition and management of the acutely ill adult patient – with a focus on patient assessment, clinical skills, decision making and treatment planning, to prevent patient deterioration and improve outcome through early intervention

Module content includes:

  • Synthesise and apply knowledge of relevant physiology
  • Pathophysiology and pharmacology to the management of the acutely ill adult patient
  • Evaluate research evidence underpinning policy and practice which ensures safe management and care of the acutely ill adult patient
  • Apply knowledge and skills in the practical recognition and assessment of the acutely ill adult patient
  • Discuss the importance of inter-professional team working, demonstrating insight into the student's role and responsibilities in optimising communication processes
