This module will enable you to critically appreciate and apply the principles of communication and related theory in public health, health education and health promotion to the creation of health communication resources and the critique of existing health communication interventions as well as to develop high level, effective communication skills transferable to a range of practice contexts.
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
- Evaluate the values and principles of health communication
- Critically analyse a range of methods in health communication
- Critically evaluate the role of communication, educational and psychology theory to effect behaviour change, and;
- Apply the principles and theories of health communication (education, psychology and communication) to a range of public health issues.

Health Communication is aimed at professionals working in related allied-health professions fields as well as, for example, nursing, nutrition, policy, environmental health, and social work.
The module is delivered over 12 weeks in Semester 2 (January to June) either in person (two hours per week) or online via distance learning.
Assessment is by an individual 2000-word critique of an existing health communication intervention (worth 75%) AND by groupwork involving the creation of a health communication resource with a written rationale (worth 25%).
The cost for this module is £1,000.
