This module provides an introduction public health and health promotion. You will develop a general grounding in public health and health promotion principles, values, theory and disciplinary foundations as well as a set of generic core skills including critical analysis and synthesis, and critical reflection.
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
- Critically assess understandings and concepts of health, determinants of health and health inequalities
- Evaluate key concepts and underlying values and principles in public health and health promotion in a national and global context
- Analyse models, approaches and methods underlying public health and health promotion practice in a national and global context, and;
- Critical consider the disciplinary foundations of public health and health promotion.
Everything you need to know
Foundations of Public Health and Health Promotion is aimed at professionals working in related allied-health professions fields as well as, for example, nursing, nutrition, policy, environmental health, and social work.
The module is delivered over 12 weeks in Semester 1 (September to January) either in person (two hours per week) or online via distance learning.
Assessment is by a 3500-word critical reflection.
The cost for this module is £1,000.
