Foundations of Public Health and Health Promotion

(20 credits at L7)

This module provides an introduction public health and health promotion. You will develop a general grounding in public health and health promotion principles, values, theory and disciplinary foundations as well as a set of generic core skills including critical analysis and synthesis, and critical reflection.

On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:

• Critically assess understandings and concepts of health, determinants of health and health inequalities
• Evaluate key concepts and underlying values and principles in public health and health promotion in a national and global context
• Analyse models, approaches and methods underlying public health and health promotion practice in a national and global context, and;
• Critical consider the disciplinary foundations of public health and health promotion.
