This module enables students to work competently as Specialist Community Public Health Nurses [SCPHN] in School Nursing and Health Visiting to develop and maintain safe practices in complex situations where a level of risk is presented when working with children, young people and families in the community setting.

This module enables students to critically explore relevant policy, legislation, underpinning theoretical approaches, and the evidence base surrounding contemporary working safeguarding practices with families in the UK. As such, SCPHN School Nurses and Health Visitors are enabled to advance their skills in assessment, management and control of risk whilst working within the targeted and specialist tiers of service intervention from their national service model (OHID, 2023).

Through experiential learning, professional debate and discussion, students will be equipped with necessary critical appraisal and interpersonal skills to demonstrate leadership, relationship building and complex case management within communities, thus, taking a proactive and preventative approach to both protect from harm and strengthen resilience with vulnerable children, young people, and families.
