Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

The Leeds Society of Architects, in partnership with Leeds Beckett University, Leeds Civic Trust, and RIBA, is thrilled to announce the return of the highly anticipated 4 X 4 talk series in February 2026!

Each evening will be chaired by four expert hosts, who will lead Q&A sessions with the presenters following each presentation, encouraging conversation around architecture, urban design, the arts, culture and sustainability.

The program will see sixteen brilliant speakers, on the basis of four speakers per evening; share their thoughts and present on four key themes: Culture, Development, Design and Sustainability. Whilst highlighting their relevance and importance to the City of Leeds and further afield.

- Irena Bauman, co-founder of Bauman Lyons Architects and start-up fabrication company MassBespoke.
- Paul Chatterton, Professor of Urban Futures at the University of Leeds and author of Low Impact Living, Unlocking Sustainable Cities and How to Save the City.
- Ryan Groves and Wesley Dodds, co-founders of Enjoy Design and architects of Opera North's Muisc works, Leeds Architecture Awards 2023, 'Adapted Buildings' award winners.
- Claude Saint-Arroman, architect, HEA lecturer, urban researcher and Leeds Civic Trust trustee.

About the event

The event is in person and free, everyone is welcome to attend, we’d love to see as many in attendance as possible, please reserve a spot so we can keep track of the number of attendees. Each evening will run for approximately two hours, with an opportunity to discuss the themes heard during the evening and network afterwards.

Please arrive promptly at 5:15pm, as the first speaker is due to begin at 5:30pm. The talks will draw to a close between 7:30 / 8pm, with networking to run until 8:45 / 9pm.
