Dr Battle-Felton is the author of Remembered, a powerful historical novel exploring the legacies of slavery which was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction (2019) and shortlisted for the Jhalak Prize (2020). Battle-Felton is also a writer of fiction and non-fiction for children, including tales for the Ladybird Tales of Superheroes and Tales of Crowns and Thrones collections.

Throughout Black History Month we will celebrate the culture, history and achievements of black communities. It is an integral part of the university’s calendar of events and supports efforts to develop long-term cultural and institutional change, whilst celebrating the contribution of our staff, students and alumni.
Yvonne Battle-Felton, author of Remembered, is an American writer living in the UK. Remembered, was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction (2019) and shortlisted for the Jhalak Prize (2020). In 2017, Yvonne won the Northern Writers Award for fiction, and was commended for children’s writing in the Faber Andlyn BAME (FAB) Prize (2017).
Yvonne’s writing has been published in literary journals and anthologies, including three titles in Penguin Random House’s Ladybird Tales of Superheroes and three titles in Ladybird Tales of Crowns and Thrones. Yvonne's second novel, Curdle Creek will be published in 2024. Yvonne has a PhD in Creative Writing from Lancaster University. She is Senior Commissioning Editor at John Murray Press and is Associate Teaching Professor at Cambridge University where she is the Academic Director of Creative Writing for the Institute of Continuing Education.
