During the lecture Professor Boyne will cover topics ranging from the tactics used by viruses to cause cancer through to more recent work investigating how tumour cells ‘talk’ to one another. Common to these processes is the molecule RNA, and Jim will describe how research on this fascinating molecule is providing new insight into both cancer detection and treatment.
Professor Jim Boyne is Head of Biomedical Science at Leeds Beckett University; previously holding a Readership in Molecular Biology at the University of Huddersfield and the position of Director of Postgraduate Research at the University of Bradford. He is a Fellow of both the Institute for Biomedical Sciences and Royal Society for Biology, and a Senior Fellow of the HEA. Jim's research interests are based around RNA biology and human disease, and he has published a number of articles in this area, receiving funding from The Royal Society, Skin Cancer Research Fund, Breast Cancer NOW and the British Skin Foundation.
This lecture is part of Leeds Beckett University's Inaugural Professorial Lecture Series.
