Professor Kate Dashper | Straight from the horse’s mouth: Multispecies perspectives on (in)equalities and inclusion in events, tourism and leisure
In her inaugural professorial lecture, Professor Kate Dashper will share her academic journey and present her research from the last 15 years.
Professor Kate Dashper will explain how seemingly disparate research strands – the first on gender and inequality in work and organisations, the second on more-than-human interactions and relationships – intertwine in her efforts to question the ways in which events, tourism and leisure both contribute to reinforcing exclusions and hierarchies and offer opportunities for reimagining these practices in more inclusive, empowering ways.

Through examples from her ethnographic fieldwork and collaborations in the UK, Iceland and Mexico, Kate will explain how viewing the world through a multispecies lens has enabled her to explore what inclusivity and equality might mean for different groups and individuals in events and tourism, both human and nonhuman.

Katherine (Kate) Dashper is a Professor in the School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management. She studied history at the University of Leeds and applied equine science at the Royal Agricultural University before embarking on a PhD in management at Keele University, sponsored by the journal Gender, Work and Organization. She builds upon this multidisciplinary background in her research to explore more-than-human aspects of work, culture and leisure in events and tourism.

This lecture is part of Leeds Beckett University's inaugural professional lecture series.
