A disabled person, many of the objects Heaton has used and ideas pursued have been within a disability context and have resonated with his experience, both individually and in his interaction with the world. Working with a wide range of materials, Heaton sometimes uses what has been called ‘the impedimenta of disability’ such as charity collecting cans, old wheelchairs or invalid carriages with surprising and often subversive results.
The Inside Out Lecture Series at Leeds School of Arts, Leeds Beckett University is an incredible opportunity to present international cutting-edge research and arts practice innovation to our research and teaching community here and to the wider national and international public.
