'Making a Stand': Guided tours
'Making A Stand' in City Square reawakens history and captures the magic of the Forest of Leodis.

Inspired by Leeds' roots as an ancient woodland, world-famous visual artist Michael Pinsky and award-winning environmental architects Studio Bark put sustainability at the heart of this epic piece for LEEDS 2023.

On Wednesday 3 October, Making a Stand hosts guided tours throughout the day, an opportunity explore the history of Leeds’ City Square as well as how Making A Stand came to be and the themes it seeks to explore as an artwork.

Volunteers will lead guided tours starting promptly on Wednesday 3 October at:

  • 12:30 - 13:00
  • 13:30 - 14:00
  • 14:15 - 14:45

The tours, written by local writer Clifford Stean, will feature history about the Square and provide an insight into the development of Making A Stand.

Tours will roughly last 15-25 minutes, and there will be an opportunity for you to roam the sculpture, ask questions and discover further using Making A Stand Online after the tour is completed. Volunteer-led tours are free and drop-in, with no booking necessary.
