In this seminar, Dawn will share preliminary PhD findings on interventions for emotional eating, co-produced insights from Patient and Public Involvement, gaps in treatment for obesity and emotional eating, and pilot results on the Eating Freely programme combining second- and third-wave CBT techniques.
The Obesity Institute at Leeds Beckett University brings together academics from a range of disciplines across the university with policy makers, practitioners, and people living with or at risk of obesity and their families and carers, to coproduce innovative person-centred advances in obesity locally, nationally and internationally.
Dawn is a Specialist Dietitian and PhD candidate at the School of Health, Leeds Beckett University, with a focus on advancing intervention strategies for emotional eating in adults living with obesity. Prior to her doctoral studies, Dawn served as an Advanced Specialist Dietitian in Tier 3 weight management, where she supported individuals with diverse and multifaceted health needs. Her commitment to promoting equitable healthcare access is reflected in her educational and professional journey, which includes a degree in public health and health promotion and a foundational career in the third sector before her qualification as a Dietitian.
Dawn's research interests lie at the intersection of socio-economic factors, emotional health, and weight management. She is dedicated to delivering personalised care and is particularly invested in understanding the effects of emotional and disordered eating on individuals living at higher weight. Additionally, she explores the potential of trauma-informed care within healthcare settings. Using a mixed-methods approach, Dawn's research aims to inform holistic, compassionate interventions that address the underlying complexities of health and behaviour.
