Inspired by the music and opera of Latin America, our 2023 Festival will feature the UK premiere of Robert Rodriguez's "Frida" and Astor Piazzolla's tango opera "Maria de Buenos Aires" - both performed at Leeds School of Arts.
The Leeds Opera Festival presents the UK premiere of "Frida".
Robert Rodriguez's opera is a beautiful, yet unflinching musical portrait of the life of one of the world's most iconic artists.
With Parvathi Subbiah as Frida, Jacobo Ochoa as Diego, and an outstanding ensemble bringing to life the cast of characters who shaped their lives across the continent.
Directed by Francesca Murray-Fuentes, and conducted by Odaline de la Martinez.
Taking place in venues and communities across the city, the Festival will bring together outstanding local, national and international talent - foregrounding artists with Latin American heritage.
