A Beginner’s Guide to Network Analysis | Seminar
This seminar will aim to provide a practical introduction to network analysis for social scientists, reflecting on Dr Christopher Byrne research into the nature of British politics research.

Network analysis is a powerful and yet underutilised research method that allows us to visually represent the structure of many different kinds of networks, with practical applications throughout the social sciences. Dr Chris Byrne will cover the basics of doing network analysis, the methodological issues it raises, and tips and tricks for getting the most out of it.

Dr Christopher Byrne is a Senior Lecturer in Politics in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. He researches and teaches various aspects of British politics, including British political history, the UK core executive and the UK Parliament. Recent research projects include studies of regime cycles in 20th and 21st century British politics, the effect of neoliberal thought on the structure of British central government, and the political afterlives of MPs. Dr. Byrne is co-editor of the journal British Politics.

As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Dr. Byrne is keenly interested in higher education pedagogy and has carried out research on the teaching of gender in politics and international relations departments in the UK, the determinants of graduate employability, and dyslexia-friendly education in the social sciences. He previously worked at the University of Exeter and the University of Leeds.
