CAHREL research seminar series 2025-26 present: Future Stories, an Australian Virtual Reality research project with young people in hospital
The seminar will focus on Future Stories, an Australian Research Council research project that co-designed virtual reality worlds with young people across three Australian hospital sites.

It will outline the project’s aims and methods, discuss its complex, youth-centred ethical approach within clinical settings, and the creative process of how the VR worlds were developed. The presentation will share selected stories and virtual worlds created by participants, reflecting on insights gained, and the benefits of co-designing immersive story worlds with young people in hospitals.

The Creative Arts and Health Research Lab (CAHREL) is based at Leeds Arts Research Centre (LARC) at Leeds Beckett University. Led by Professor Persephone Sextou in partnership with culture, arts and healthcare organisations globally, CAHREL aims to improve people’s lives, especially, children, young people, and their families in relation to health, wellbeing, mental health/illness, lived experience, social inclusion, co-design and co-production and social arts prescribing.

Speakers: Hosted by Professor Persephone Sextou, Leeds Beckett University we welcome from The University of New South Wales Professor Michael Balfour, Dr Guy Lobwein, Jennifer Penton and Dr Jan Cattoni, CQUniversity Australia.
