Digital-free Tourism: Emotions, experience, and challenges
With increasing concerns on technostress and digital wellbeing, there has been a growing demand for digital-free tourism in recent years.

Dr Wenjie Cai, from the University of Greenwich will discuss the emotional journey that tourists experience on a digital-free trip, how they negotiate with the disciplinary power of digital technology, and the potential dark side of digital-free tourism. The seminar aims to provide an alternative and critical voice in today’s advocating narratives of digital tourism and invite a more critical discussion in the knowledge creation of Information Technology and Tourism.

Dr Wenjie Cai is an Associate Professor in Tourism at the University of Greenwich. Wenjie is an experienced qualitative researcher; his area of expertise and research interests include digital wellbeing, social inclusion, knowledge creation, technology use, and consumer behaviour.

Wenjie aims to advocate digital wellbeing and support marginalised and disadvantaged groups through his research. He has more than 30 research outputs, including publications in world-leading journals in the field. His research on digital-free tourism has been reported globally by more than 500 media, including BBC, CNN, the World Economic Forum, and Forbes.
