We will be offering a day of evidence-informed, in-person workshops for those working and researching in sport and issues of EDI. These workshops will explore current hot topics, challenges and debates. As someone working in your sport on these issues, we are delighted to invite you to join us in what promises to be a leading-edge, stimulating event led by a fantastic line-up of speakers. More detailed information about each workshop is attached.
- In Workshop 1, Professor Brett Smith will present on the topic of ‘co-production’ in EDI and sport - What is it, why do it, and how might it be practically achieved and evaluated? This workshop is particularly important for those looking at how we might advance co-produced research in order to make a genuine difference with people in (in)active communities, sporting contexts, and different cultures. No knowledge of co-production is needed for the workshop. But a curious mind and an interest in wanting to make a difference would be beneficial
- Workshop 2 sees Dr Rachael Bullingham & Dr Scarlett Drury present on the issue of transgender men in sports policy. They will provide insights into their research exploring a group routinely marginalised in the debates around safety, fairness, and inclusion, and discuss trans men’s inclusion in sport policy
- In our third workshop of the day, Louise Morby & Dr Stefan Lawrence will present on the topic of allyship in sport leadership. The aim of this workshop is to provide sport leaders with practical strategies for building more inclusive and equitable organisations through allyship. Participants will learn how to use their positions of influence to support and advocate for marginalised individuals in their organisations. The workshop is designed to be interactive, empowering, and practical
The event is free with lunch and refreshments provided, hosted here at our Headingley Campus and incredible new School of Sport building. All we ask is for you to register to help us with planning. Spaces are very limited, so please sign up soon to secure your place. Please also feel free to share this invitation with your colleagues for whom this may be relevant.
We look forward to seeing you on June 9th. If you would like any further information in the meantime, please feel free to get in touch.
