Tom Briscoe, rugby player and I suppose I've achieved quite a lot in the game. Played for England Grand Finals, Challenge Cup finals, scoring tries in finals. So now I've had a great career and it's an honour to be here tonight.
I graduated in 2020 and, never something that thought I would do in my life, but it was an avenue that opened up and it became quite an achievement, a proud achievement to graduate and get a degree. So for this to come on the back of that and, and being part of Leeds Beckett, it's special. It means a lot. Like I said, it came, it came out of the blue and pretty honoured to be thought of in these circumstances.
Yeah, for those players who want to go down that route, it's massive. I don't think I could have done it without the support, you know, both financially and the support through the university of the tutors, the teachers, lecturers who all helped facilitate my busy schedule as being a rugby player. It's quite hit and miss. There's nothing set in stone. So to be able to put that to the side and do the work around that and the staff to facilitate that, it was massive. And like I say, without that help I wouldn't have been able to do it.
So I have not decided fully what I want to do yet. I don't know if I want to go down, kind of, a strength and conditioning route within sport or more of a teaching, lecturing type role at university or wherever that might may be. But obviously getting a degree puts me in the right steps moving forward. Currently doing a PhD as well, so that, the stepping stone from originally graduating here.
Coming out of school and being local to the area. Leeds Beckett is one of the biggest universities around. It's got a big, big draw. And if you just have to look at the facilities here and, and the building we're currently in, it's very appealing. And then you're right next to Leeds City centre. So it's got a lot going for it and the university is brilliant. I've had a great time and everyone I've spoke to within the university really enjoys the time here.
