Leeds Beckett welcomes employers for DigitalLEAP
Representatives from Sky, Sky Bet, NHS Digital, FDM and Ten10 will all present to students on what they have to offer, whilst Amy De-Balsi, MD at Herd will discuss the Leeds digital economy and what opportunities are available.
Sally Bogg, Head of Service Management at Leeds Beckett University and Women in IT Business Role Model of the Year 2018, will discuss her inspirational journey into the digital and tech industry from a non-tech background in her keynote speech.
Richard Stringer said: ‘I’m delighted to invite our employer partners on to campus, who will be generously giving our students their time and expertise over the next six weeks to educate them about the fantastic digital and tech industry in Leeds, and what it can offer to students and graduates.
“DigitalLEAP is a pilot scheme to encourage students from all degree backgrounds to start a career in tech, as the sector is thriving in the city and many employers are now willing to train staff with the digital skills required to enjoy a career in this area.
“It might go some way to address the skills shortage in the industry, and improve awareness of what kinds of jobs are available in areas such as software development, testing, consultancy and data analytics.
“The students who have signed up to DigitalLEAP at Leeds Beckett come from a variety of courses, including Law, Sport, Criminology and Business, and we hope it will be an informative and inspirational next couple of weeks for them as they progress through the programme.”
The DigitalLEAP launch session will take place on Monday 11 February, 17:00 to 19:00, in Rose Bowl 231 on City Campus.
