NHS Research Ethics Coordinator role for Carnegie researcher
Dr Nicky Kime, Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Active Lifestyles (CAL) and Local Research Ethics Coordinator, has secured the position following a competitive recruitment process.
Nicky will be involved in reviewing ethics applications from colleagues performing research projects which involve NHS patients and settings.
Speaking about the new role, Nicky said: “This is an exciting opportunity for me to develop my interest in research ethics. I already have a good understanding of NHS ethics from my work with NHS patients and in NHS settings and this appointment as an ‘expert’ member, reviewing NHS ethics applications, will enable me to increase my level of expertise.”
Dr Andy Pringle, Chair of the Carnegie Faculty Research Ethics Committee, added: “Local Research Ethics Coordinators (LRECs) make an important contribution to research in our University and last year, LRECs in the Carnegie Faculty reviewed around 1,500 applications. Given that research in the Centre of Active Lifestyles includes healthcare settings, Nicky’s expertise on NHS research ethics will be especially important as we prepare for the Research Excellence Framework in 2021.”
