Achieving Excellence recognise colleagues' success
Our vision is to be an excellent, accessible, globally engaged university contributing positively to a thriving Northern economy. The way we will achieve this is through excellent staff working together.
That is why our Achieving Excellence Awards are so important. It is when we say thank you for the jobs you do, appreciate and recognise contributions from colleagues across schools and services to the success of the University.
The People Strategy recognises that our people are key to our success. The Achieving Excellence Awards are our opportunity to come together as one University to acknowledge those who inspire and deliver excellence in their day to day roles. Everyone makes a difference and by working together and recognising excellence across all areas, Leeds Beckett will continue to succeed as a University and an excellent employer. The awards ceremony will take place at the Rose Bowl and will be hosted by BBC television broadcaster Harry Gration.
Employees who have been shortlisted each embody the University’s values by being inspiring, creative, enterprising, purposeful, professional and respectful, in different ways within their roles. It is a real accolade to be nominated by the colleagues and/or students who value the work that employees do and feel their contribution should receive wider recognition.
There are eight categories in which individuals or teams can be nominated; Course Leader of the Year; Excellence in Customer Service; Inspiring Teacher of the Year; Outstanding Contribution to Enterprise and Innovation; Researcher of the Year; Team of the Year; Transformational Leadership and Unsung Hero.
Here’s what some of our previous winners said about how this acknowledgement has made a difference to them.
Carl Noblet – (Maintenance Assistant, Grounds Maintenance Team) - Unsung Hero
“The awards are a really good way to recognise and celebrate individuals and teams, even if they just work in the background. It’s great to see the impact that our work has had across the University.”
Ben Jones (Senior Lecturer in Carnegie School of Sport) – joint winner for Researcher of the Year
“Being recognised as Researcher of the Year was a great honour, and is an achievement for all involved in our research project. The University provides a supportive culture for researchers to achieve excellence in their field and this award is an example of the positive environment.”
Tim Briggs (Senior Lecturer, School of Health) - Inspiring Teacher of the Year
“To be recognised by students for striving to inspire them and give them a positive role model was very rewarding for me personally. It makes you realise that going the extra mile to help students is noticed and valued by them.”
Speaking ahead of the awards, Leeds Beckett Chancellor Sir Bob Murray CBE, commented: "It is a pleasure to be a part of these important staff awards once again, as we rightly celebrate the hard work, dedication and achievements of our colleagues. The university is all about our people – both staff and students – and that’s what makes us special. Congratulations and good luck to those who have been shortlisted.”
