Finalists announced for Leeds Sports Awards
Taking place on the evening of Tuesday 7 March, Leeds Beckett has four finalists for the awards in the Senior Achievers category.
Leading the way in the Sportsman category is Olympian and MSc Finance graduate, Alistair Brownlee, whilst BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Science graduate Kadeena Cox and former MA Sport and Business student David Stone, are included in the sportsman and sportswoman disability categories respectively.
Alumnus Ady Hinchliffe is nominated in the Coach Performance category in recognition of his work with Leeds divers Jack Laugher and Chris Mears and securing Team GB’s first ever Olympic diving gold medal in the Men’s three metre synchronised springboard event in Rio.
Within the same category former Director of Sport Malcolm Brown and Triathlon Head Coach Jack Maitland will go head to Head with Ady Hinchliffe for their work with the Brownlee brothers, who train on the Leeds Beckett campus and unforgettably finished one-two at the 2016 games.
The women’s hockey club - who have been praised for raising a staggering £13,790 for Marie Curie - have been nominated in the Student Sport category for Special Contribution.
Previous winners include: Nicola Adams MBE (Boxing), the Brownlee brothers (Triathlon), Leeds Rhinos (Rugby), Yorkshire County Cricket Club (Cricket), Hannah Cockroft MBE (Athletics), City of Leeds Divers (Diving), and many other professional and amateur athletes, volunteers, coaches and more.
