LLI support university adjustment to remote working
LLI initially saw a 39% increase in queries from students and staff compared to last year as these groups settled into remote teaching and studying.
Advice was provided on video assessment, creation of online tests, accessing Remote App and electronic resources. The majority of queries are now being received via email but phone and chat support is still available 08:30 - 00:00 every day.
Academic Librarians and Skills Tutors have delivered their in-curriculum teaching online and received positive student feedback. The research students’ café held in conjunction with the Graduate School also became a virtual event with the dozen students attending asking for more opportunities to get together.
Appointments have moved online with one delivered via Instagram and the existing Skills for Learning online drop-ins have been extended to every Tuesday at 14:30 bookable via MyHub.
The Digital Learning Service collaborated with colleagues from CLT, IT Services and Distance Learning Unit to support staff with moving teaching online, creating an Academic Continuity guide alongside a new guide to help staff choose an online meeting tool to use with students and new . The TeachLearn website continues to host a wealth of useful information for the move to online teaching.
Students with disabilities are receiving extra support in accessing technology and assistive software from off-campus and course teams are being advised on how to make their online lecture content accessible.
LLI are continuously evaluating the free resources that are being made available from academic publishers, adding more than 44 collections and thousands of individual electronic resources to the Databases A-Z list, including material directly relating to Coronavirus (COVID-19) which can be accessed by our health and nursing students.
A new eBook service was launched on 26 March to temporarily replace Beckett Books Extra with over 60 titles already requested. In addition they continue to check the existing print collections for electronic versions, locate e-versions of articles through the Copyright Licencing Agency’s Digital Content Store and ensure reading lists are kept up to date.
If you have any queries about accessing Library services during this difficult period please contact your Academic Librarian or direct your students to our Library and Student IT Advice service.
The Library website continues to provide information about all their services and has a dedicated coronavirus information page.
