Leeds Beckett athletics team give strong BUCS performance
Not only did the team finish fifth overall, but there were personal triumphs for several of our students:
- Mollie Williams got fourth place in the women’s 5000m.
- Our women’s 4 x 400m relay team came third; with the men’s 4 x 100m relay team (pictured) took the silver medal.
- Women’s shot putter Emily Campbell finished third.
- Jack Major gained second place in the men’s 110m hurdles.
- Daniel Gardiner won first place in the men’s long jump.
- In the men’s javelin competition, Matthew Hunt took third place.
Speaking about his experience, 110m hurdler and Sports Business Management student Jack Major said: “When I walked out for my race the support I got from everyone cheering me on was phenomenal. The support from the Leeds Beckett Athletics team throughout BUCS really creates an enjoyable experience. I can’t wait for next year!”
Despite this being the last student competition of the year, for the athletes it’s only the start of their season which carries on throughout the summer. Head Coach Andrew Henderson commented: “The next big competition for them all will be the county championships, with all of them also trying to get to the national championship/Olympic trials in June.”
