Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

VIP triathlon event on campus

Excitement is building with just five weeks to go until the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon in Leeds and today, our campus hosts some of the world’s best triathletes in anticipation of the event on 11-12 June 2016.

The regional client and media event is being held to raise awareness of the World Triathlon in Leeds and will provide a platform for triathletes to share experiences and advice ahead of the triathlon.

The event will be supported by the British Triathlon Federation and hosted by Jonathan Edwards CBE, and will feature elite GB triathletes Alistair Brownlee MBE, Olympic Gold medallist and graduate from our University (MSc Finance 2013), Jonny Brownlee, Olympic Bronze medallist, and Non Stanford, 2013 ITU World Triathlon Champion.

Jack Buckner, CEO of British Triathlon, will speak at the event, along with Alison Jefferis, Head of Corporate Affairs, Columbia Threadneedle Investments.

There will be an exclusive photo opportunity for invited media guests which will take place on the forecourt of Old Broadcasting House, featuring the triathletes with a giant trophy and leader trophy. After an introduction from Jonathan Edwards in the afternoon, two panel discussions will take place, followed by a seminar from Malcolm Brown, British Triathlon World Class Performance Coach and Honorary Doctor of Leeds Beckett University, concluding with media interviews with the triathletes.

The World Triathlon Leeds will provide a unique opportunity for recreational triathletes to compete on the same course as the world’s best. On Sunday 12 June 2016, Leeds will welcome over 5,000 triathletes of all levels of ability to compete on the unique ‘point to point’ course with two separate transition areas. Beginning in Roundhay Park, athletes will complete an open water swim, a bike-leg which will take place via a series of laps in Leeds city centre, followed by a 10km run course which will finish in the city centre. Professional triathletes will follow the amateur group, which will be contested over the Olympic distance and involve a more technical, city centre-based bike course. There is still time for staff and students to get involved in the World Triathlon event in Leeds, either through amateur competitions or volunteering opportunities. Find out more here.
