Leeds Beckett nutritionist receives industry award
Louise Sutton, Principal Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Nutrition in the School of Sport at Leeds Beckett, has been awarded the British Dietetic Association (BDA) IBEX Award for Professional Achievement. This prestigious award is given to individuals who have shown commitment and significant contributions to the dietetic profession having given outstanding service and worked to promote the highest standards in the science and practice of dietetics.
Louise has been recognised in the BDA’s Role of Honour for the last two years for her contribution to the development of the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr) in respect of raising the profile of the SENr nationally and internationally. She has recently been appointed Deputy Chair of the SENr Board, with particular responsibility for registration and accreditation issues, and Chair of the BDA Sport Nutrition Specialist Interest Group.
Speaking about the award, Louise said: “Raising the standards of practice in sport and exercise nutrition is something I feel very passionately about and it is an honour to be recognised by my profession for my endeavours in that regard.
“The Leeds Beckett MSc in Sport and Exercise Nutrition was the first to be awarded accredited status with the SENr and this award provides further recognition of the quantity of our programme in preparing students for practice.”
The British Dietetic Association (BDA) was founded in 1936 and is the professional association and trade union for dietitians in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is the nation’s largest organisation of food and nutrition professionals with over 8,500 members.
The annual awards dinner was held on the evening of 16 June 2016 in Birmingham and overseen by Honorary Chair, Dr Fiona McCullough.
Louise Sutton is a Principal Lecturer responsible for Sports Nutrition and Collaborative provision at Leeds Beckett. Her subject specialisms are in the areas of nutrition and applied exercise teaching.
Louise is a member of the Health and Fitness Technical Expert Group of SkillsActive, the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure and Learning and an independent reviewer of training and education for the Register of Exercise Professionals.
