Learn the local lingo for your next trip overseas
If this sounds familiar and you don’t know your bier from your cerveza help is at hand from Leeds Beckett University which is offering part time language classes in a schedule friendly bite sized format starting in October.
Itziar Villamerial, Senior Lecturer in Leeds Beckett University’s Department of Languages said: “We are one of the very few universities in the UK with an extensive language programme and students can expect to learn from experienced and qualified tutors who will support them throughout their studies.
“Students can achieve a degree in the chosen language by choosing our award bearing route or just do it for fun with no assessments.
“Advantages of learning a foreign language include meeting new people, gaining new employability skills, building your confidence and creativity and it is also great for travelling.”
There are 14 languages, from Arabic to Swedish, to choose from and the weekly two-hour class with experienced tutors will help you to immerse yourself in the culture of your choice.
The part time language classes run for 26 weeks. Enrolment forms need to be completed and returned by 15 September and courses start the week commencing 2 October 2017 ending in May 2018.
Courses are available in Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish.
There are language open days on 5, 11 and 13 September.
