Leeds Beckett Athletics aiming for sub two-hour marathon
The fundraising challenge will pit the will and determination of the Leeds Beckett athletes as they aim to run 26 miles in less than two hours.
Nike’s athletes recently attempted the challenge but came up agonisingly short at 2 hours and 25 seconds leaving the door open for Team Beckett to claim the World Record.
The challenge will take place on Saturday 11 November from 2:30pm at Leeds Beckett’s Athletics Track (Headingley Campus) and the club would love to see all supporters come down and cheer them on for the big event.
There will be plenty of other activities for supporters to get involved with including a predictions contest with a special prize as well as a bake sale and much more. Find out more about the event on their Facebook page
The fundraiser will help raise money for the club’s travel, training and competition costs for the 2017/18 season, with the club aiming to raise £100 for their efforts.
You can help them achieve their goal by donating to their JustGiving page.
Beckett captain Joshua Schofield is looking forward to the club taking on the gruelling challenge.
“It's going to be an exciting event trying to break the elusive two hour barrier,” he said
“The average time per lap is pretty fast but the team is very strong so hopefully we can achieve it.”
There will be 16 members of Team Beckett’s Athletics club taking part in the #Breaking2 challenge:
Joshua Schofield
Phil Winkler
Jonny Evans
Ben Read
James Habergham
Jack Maher
Alex Padgin
Owen McNally
Rachel Hibberd
Chris Durney
Matt Sheen
Beth Pringle

Best of luck to the team as they take on this incredible World Record challenge.
