Leeds Beckett event to explore career opportunities in sport
Careers in Sport LIVE, now in its fifth year, will take place at Leeds Beckett’s Headingley Campus on Friday 27January from 10am.
The event is free to attend and a great networking opportunity for employers, trainers, students, career advisors, professionals, and anyone interested in a change of career.
Pete Mackreth, Dean of the Carnegie School of Sport at Leeds Beckett, explained: “This event is a unique opportunity for students at school, college or university to meet employers and experts within the field of sport and develop an idea of where they want to go in regards to a career in sport.”
Careers in Sport LIVE will include three ‘Zones’: the Careers Zone, Sports Zone, and Fitness Zone.
The ‘Careers Zone’ is an area dedicated to highlighting the diversity of careers within the sport industry, with all the information needed to progress to a job within sport. Special guests presenting at the Careers Zone include: Heather Fell, Olympic silver medallist in Modern Pentathlon and former world number one; Jamie Jones Buchannan, Leeds Rhinos Rugby Player, and former Leeds Beckett student who graduated in with a BA (Hons) Sport & Exercise Science degree in 2008.
In the ‘Sports Zone’, attendees will be able to observe high-class coaching from professional sports clubs and coaches, with the chance to get involved and learn from the best. On offer will be teqball competitions, wheelchair basketball, Y ball and more.
Finally, the ‘Fitness Zone’ will provide guidance on how visitors can achieve their sport career goals and fitness aspirations. Free 20-minute sessions on latest fitness crazes will also be available, including: Boogie Bounce, Powerhoop, Soccercise, Build a Bulletproof Body, Army Fitness, Bokaw and Wild training.
Leeds Beckett University’s sports science facilities will also be showcased at the Careers in Sport LIVE event, offering a further insight into careers available within sport.
Harvey Grout, CEO at Careers In Sport, added: “The idea behind Careers In Sport LIVE is to demonstrate to young people the myriad of opportunities that exist within the health, sport and fitness industries. Unfortunately, most young people are not aware of the huge number of options available to them on this career path.”
The aim of the Careers in Sport LIVE events is to highlight career opportunities within sport. At the same time, with health and fitness on the nation’s agenda, Careers in Sport LIVE events encourage students to take up new sports and activities whilst learning about nutrition and the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle.
