Four Star rating for Leeds Beckett in latest QS rankings
QS Stars publishes the university world ranking league tables and has awarded Leeds Beckett four stars overall in their five star rating system, with five star ratings achieved across four categories: Employability, learning environment, internationalisation and inclusiveness.
The University was also rated five stars against other universities across the world for its academic work in Events, Tourism and Hospitality with the school ranked by QS as one of the top 75 in the world thanks to the international reputation of the School Dean Professor Rhodri Thomas and its work around sustainable tourism.
Last year the University was included for the first time in its history in the QS World University Rankings, placing it among the top 5% of the world’s 20,000 universities, and 64th among UK universities in the table.
Speaking about the results, Professor Peter Slee, Vice Chancellor at Leeds Beckett, said: “We take great pride in creating an educational experience that leads to successful careers for our students and these results are further evidence of our appeal to students across a broad range of disciplines. It is particularly pleasing that our inclusiveness and internationalisation have been recognised as these are qualities in which we are committed to pursuing excellence, as we make Leeds Beckett an even better place to study in the future.”
Speaking about studying LLB (Hons) Law at Leeds Beckett, Cecily Fearnley, Managing Director at Sweet Cecily’s, said: “By studying at Leeds Beckett, I set myself up with all the skills to understand the legalities of running a business. I studied employment law, consumer law and copyright law (amongst everything else), which have all been very useful, and I also have the ability to read and understand the legal information I now come across, such as product regulations.”
Rob Green, a recent graduate of BA (Hons) Art, Event, Performance and now a performer and recording artist, added: “My tutors were all practising artists and they really pushed me to develop myself within the current arts scene - I even negotiated a record deal that enabled me to release my EP after I graduated. One of my tracks was then named BBC 1Xtra Track of the Week. I’m now launching my third EP and every day my career is shaped by the varied skills I gained at University.
QS Stars is a rating system, operated by the QS Intelligence Unit, the independent compiler of the QS World University Rankings, which allows students to get a wider picture of an institution’s qualities, looking at everything from the employability of graduates, to sports facilities and community engagement. It is designed to reflect the nuanced mission of universities, and the needs of students who may be interested in things other than those to which traditional rankings are necessarily limited.
The QS Stars audit evaluates an institution against over 50 different indicators, and awards universities between one and five stars over eight wider fields, as well as an overall rating. By covering a broader range of criteria than any world ranking exercise, QS Stars shines a light on both the excellence and the diversity of the rated institution.
