Coaches sought for research project
The CoachMADE Project with Curtin University, Australia and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece is being funded by the International Olympic Committee.
The project is offering coaches the opportunity to attend free workshops at Leeds Beckett in September, which will concentrate on promoting healthy athlete development and sustained engagement in sport. There will be a specific focus on:
- Effective motivation strategies that promote high quality motivation and adaptive outcomes associated with performance and well-being
- Proactive anti-doping strategies that minimise athletes’ willingness to engage in doping activities
Participation is open to coaches who are involved at any competitive level who work with a squad of at least eight athletes aged 14+, who see the same group at least once a week and coach within a 40-mile radius of Leeds.
You will be asked to attend two workshops and complete a 15-minute questionnaire along with your athletes three times over a five-month period.
You will receive an Amazon voucher as a thank you for taking part in the project.
Dr Lisa Whitaker, a research officer at Leeds Beckett’s Carnegie School of Sport who is leading the research, said: “The purpose of the project is to increase coaches’ efficacy to deliver anti-doping information and foster anti-doping attitudes amongst their athletes in order to prevent both intentional and inadvertent doping. The findings of the project will be used to inform the development of future education programmes targeted at coaches with the aim of preventing doping.”
