Performance
Senior Lecturer, Alex Kelly’s show, ‘The Department of Distractions’, is running at Northern Stage in Newcastle from 2 – 10 February 2018. Alex wrote the show and is co-director of the production at the Northern Stage. The show is based on another that Alex made with Portuguese and Brazilian colleagues two years ago.
Music
Music students from the school along with Senior Lecturers Dr Robert Davis and Dr Tenley Martin were invited to play in London at the Iklectic Horse festival. The three-day festival ran 26 – 28 January and covered new compositions, improvisation and experimental music. More information on the festival can be found here.
Futures Fest
The school ran its annual ‘Futures Fest’ in January, which involved a number of different music events, workshops and residencies, and exposed students to various areas of the industry. Lecturer, Bob Brazill organised two residences for graduate artists, with Cat-Una and Christopher Brain both recording tracks for their upcoming albums in Leeds Beckett studios. Course Director, Alex Stevenson organized several courses on using the digital audio workstation technology Pro Tools. Senior Lecturer, Michael Ward ran two Mastering Workshops, and finally Lecturer, Barkley McKay for welcomed students into his home studio to take them through how it was designed, built and works. We received fantastic comments from students about how many of them found this some of the most exciting weeks of the year.
